With the sudden demise (suicide) of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, India’s film industry, Bollywood, is getting trolled for supporting Nepotism. What is Nepotism and why is Nepotism such a big deal? What is Nepotism? How did the Word Nepotism Originate? Nepotism, in simple terms, is people in power favouring their family members, friends or relatives over others. The actual word ‘Nepotism’ is derived from the Latin root ‘nepos’ meaning nephew. In the Middle Ages until the late 17th century, some Catholic popes and bishops gave powerful positions to their nephews, whether or not they were deserving. Since the popes and bishops had taken vows of chastity, hence they had no legitimate children of their own.
